What Shared Canvas does
The result is still a document, not an answer you have to start over from.
AI works inside the document where your writing, research, notes, and plans remain editable. Shared Canvas also brings project organization, optional automations, collaboration, and public Canvas publishing into the same workspace.
You decide what to create, what to publish, which sources to connect, and when an automation may run.

Optional Google Workspace connections
You choose each connection separately and can disconnect it at any time.
You can separately connect Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Drive. Gmail searches are read-only and currently return matching message metadata—including sender, recipient, subject, and date—and Google's short message snippets. Calendar access is read-only and limited to events on calendars you own. A single Calendar search reads at most 25 matching events from your primary calendar, optionally within the time range you request.
Google Drive access is read-only. Shared Canvas searches file metadata and exports Google Docs only when you ask it to read them. Shared Canvas cannot send email, create, edit, delete, or share Calendar events, or create, modify, or delete Drive files.
Relevant Google Workspace excerpts may be sent only to an eligible directly contracted AI provider solely to produce your requested result and may be saved in the resulting Canvas or conversation. If the model you selected is not eligible for Google data, Shared Canvas stops before reading Google and asks you to choose an eligible model. If you save results in a Canvas that has collaborators—or share that Canvas later—the collaborators you choose can see those saved results. Google user data is not sold, used for advertising, or used to develop, improve, or train generalized or other non-personalized AI or machine-learning models.
Disconnecting a service removes its stored OAuth credential and stops future access to that service. Saved results remain until you delete the Canvas or conversation. You can also revoke Shared Canvas from your Google Account.
